Position Summary 

The Controller is responsible for leading the organization's accounting and financial operations while ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and cash management. This role oversees the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Accounting teams and serves as a key business partner to senior leadership by providing financial insights, maintaining regulatory compliance, and driving operational excellence across the finance function. This position reports to the VP of Finance. 

Key Responsibilities 

Leadership & Team Management 

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Accounting teams. 
  • Establish performance goals, accountability measures, and professional development plans for finance staff. 
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. 
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing team members. 
  • Manage workload distribution and succession planning within the department. 

Accounts Payable Management 

  • Oversee the full accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments. 
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and resolve payment-related issues. 
  • Monitor payment terms and identify opportunities to optimize cash flow. 
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and approval workflows. 

Accounts Receivable Management 

  • Direct accounts receivable operations, including billing, collections, and cash application processes. 
  • Monitor aging reports and collection activities to improve cash conversion and minimize bad debt exposure. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve customer payment performance. 
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams regarding credit and collection matters. 

Inventory & Cost Accounting 

  • Manage inventory accounting processes and ensure accurate valuation of inventory. 
  • Oversee standard costing, cost analysis, inventory reconciliations, and physical inventory procedures. 
  • Analyze manufacturing and operational costs and provide recommendations for process improvements. 
  • Ensure inventory controls are maintained and accurately reflected in financial records. 

Cash & Treasury Management 

  • Monitor and manage company cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships. 
  • Develop cash forecasts and provide recommendations to support strategic financial decision-making. 
  • Optimize working capital through effective management of receivables, payables, and inventory. 
  • Ensure adequate controls over cash transactions and treasury activities. 

Financial Reporting & Accounting 

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. 
  • Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards. 
  • Analyze financial results and provide meaningful insights to executive leadership. 
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of all accounting records. 
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning efforts. 

Internal Controls & Compliance 

  • Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets. 
  • Evaluate accounting processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risk. 
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Maintain documentation supporting key financial controls and procedures. 

Tax & Regulatory Compliance 

  • Coordinate and oversee federal, state, and local tax filings. 
  • Ensure timely compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements. 
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors and regulatory agencies as needed. 
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and accounting regulations that may impact the organization. 

Audit Management 

  • Lead internal and external audit activities. 
  • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and financial information requests. 
  • Coordinate responses to auditor inquiries and facilitate efficient audit completion. 
  • Implement corrective actions and process improvements identified during audits. 

Expense Compliance 

  • Ensure compliance with company expense reimbursement policies and procedures. 
  • Monitor expense reporting for accuracy, completeness, and policy adherence. 
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve expense management processes. 
  • Support policy development and communication across the organization. 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience. 
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams. 
  • Experience overseeing AP, AR, general accounting, and month-end close processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities. 

Preferred 

  • CPA designation. 
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-intensive environments. 
  • Experience with cost accounting and inventory management. 
  • Familiarity with treasury management and banking relationships. 
  • Experience leading external audits and tax compliance activities. 

Total Rewards at RFT 

  • Salary Range $120,000 - $150,000 annually, plus bonus opportunity. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, skills, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
