Controller

BROOKFIELD, WI

The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting activities, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supports strategic decision-making through financial analysis, and leads the accounting team in executing day-to-day financial activities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Effective oversight of all accounting activities and functions – including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Perform month-end close with appropriate review of account activity to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with parent company (SRM) on financial reporting and compliance.
  • Complete monthly variance analysis comparing budget to actuals with explanations and recommendations for enhanced operational efficiency.
  • Conduct quarterly financial touch base sessions with key leadership stakeholders who have budgetary responsibility.
  • Perform near-term cashflow forecast and manage cash balances to support the working capital needs of the organization.
  • Handle sensitive communications with customers and vendors via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Perform systems / process evaluation, recommend and implement enhancements where appropriate to continually improve departmental efficiency and internal control.
  • Prepare financial reports as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal agencies impacting the organization.
  • Coordinate requests with the external audit firm.
  • Assist VP of Finance with budget preparation, board reporting, and forecasting as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software, installation preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the finance department.
  • Customer service mentality with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Attention to detail.
